High Point spoiled both Senior Day and Homecoming at Winthrop Saturday afternoon as the Panthers knocked off the Lady Eagles, 72-66, in Big South women's basketball action.

The Panthers (16-9, 8-4 Big South) have clinched a first-round home game for the opening rpund of the Big South Tournament on Mar. 5.

Five players scored in double-figures for High Point (16-9, 8-4 Big South), led by Cebronica Scott's 16 points, five assists and four steals.

Narelle Henry added 14 points, three assists, three blocks, four steals, while Misty Brockman (14 points) and Gina Rosser and Stephanie Scott (11 points apiece) also reached double-figures.

Winthrop (9-16, 4-8) fell behind by 11 points at halftime and tried to rally, but came up short. The Lady Eagles took the lead at 67-66 with 1:31 after a free throw by Tawander Whittington. Rosser then gave High Point a one-point lead on two free throws moments later and then made a lay-up with 32 seconds remaining for a three-point lead. On the ensuing play Whittington was called for an offensive foul. Brockman then was fouled on the inbounds play and made both free throws to clinch the victory.

Stephanie Pannell led Winthrop with 18 points. Whittington had 16 points and Jessica Anger put up her second career double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.

HPU takes on Radford Wednesday night (7:00 pm) at the Dedmon Center before returning home for Senior Day and the regular-season finale Saturday afternoon against Elon.
