Box Score

Lindsay Smith scored 22 points as Appalachian State snapped High Point's two-game winning streak with an 86-63 win over the Panthers Wednesday at the Holmes Center in Boone.

The Mountaineers grabbed their first win of season (1-3), while the Panthers fell to 3-2.

Charlena Martin and Katie O'Dell each scored 20 points for the Panthers.

High Point missed its first five shots of the game before O'Dell connected on a long jumper with 16:03 to go. The Panthers got within 9-7 on a Martin jumper, but wouldn't claw closer than five points the rest of the way.

The Mountaineers led by as many as 13 points on three occasions in the first stanza, but O'Dell made sure they wouldn't take their biggest lead to the locker room. O'Dell drove for a layup with five seconds left in the half to cut ASU's halftime advantage to 37-26.

App shot 47 percent from the field before intermission (15-of-32), and outrebounded the Panthers 24-18 in the same span.

High Point sliced the lead to single digits for the first time in more than 12 minutes when Martin drained a three-pointer with 14:25 left that pulled the Panthers with 51-42. But ASU pieced together a 13-4 run for some breathing room and a 64-46 cushion with 10:05 to play. The Mountaineers shot 57 percent from the field after halftime.

Smith scored 19 of her 22 points in the second half to lead all scorers. Aisha Bryant added 16 points on 3-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.

Kate Jenner joined Martin and O'Dell in double-figures with 11 points for HPU, which was outrebounded 44-33.

The Panthers face East Tennessee State in the opening round of the Provident Bank Xavier Invitational on Saturday in Cincinnati, Ohio, and will play either Xavier or Central Michigan on Sunday.
