After 12 straight games on the road, High Point's return to the Millis Center was an unhappy one. Birmingham-Southern topped HPU by a linescore of 30-20, 30-24, 30-23, in a battle of Panthers Saturday afternoon.

HPU falls to 5-17, 0-4 in Big South play, while BSC improves to 7-6 (1-1).

High Point was led by Lindsey Pickens, who had 12 kills and a .345 hitting percentage. Kamarsha Ryan added eight kills and Ashley Roth seven for HPU. Defensively, the Panthers got a match-high 20 digs from Kim Anderson, while Pickens added nine digs and April Shields added eight. Heather Butt provided 30 assists for HPU.

Jana Smelley and Danielle Graff led BSC with 12 kills apiece, while Graff had a .370 hitting percentage for the match. Cassie Reed added 11 kills and recorded a double-double with a team-high 12 digs. Also in double-figures defensively for BSC were Kyndall Waters (11 digs), Graff and Smelley (10 digs apiece).

Waters tallied 46 assists for BSC.

Birmingham-Southern continues its road trip Sunday with a 3:00 match at Winthrop, while High Point hosts UNC Asheville Tuesday night in the Millis Center. First serve is set for 7:00 pm, and admission is free.
