Box Score Winthrop got 18 kills from Lindsey Remmers and 13 kills and 16 digs from Mary Hock to defeat High Point, 3-1, Tuesday night in Big South volleyball action at the Millis Center. The line score was 15-30, 30-27, 28-30, and 27-30.
The Eagles improve to 17-9, 6-2 in Big South play, while the Panthers fall to 6-22 (0-8 in Conference play).
Winthrop cruised to a 30-15 win in the first game, but High Point came out in game two ready to play and held the lead throughout the entire stanza and held off a late run from the Eagles to tie the match at 1-1.
However, Winthrop was able to take the last two games by a narrow margin after High Point would not let up a relentless attack.
High Point's Lindsey Pickens helped made the match close with a match-high 22 kills and a .390 hitting percentage. Kamarsha Ryan also had a strong performance with 13 kills while Heather Butt had a double-double with 41 assists and 11 digs. Sabrina Wahid had nine total blocks.
Winthrop's Emily Heckl had a match-high 48 assists while Tori Grafeman had 11 kills.
Both teams face Liberty next. Winthrop hosts the Lady Flames at 7:00 pm Friday evening, while the Panthers play host to Liberty Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm in the Millis Center. Admission is free.
