Sven Simon and Martin Zaluk each scored a pair of goals as Birmingham-Southern topped High Point, 7-1, Friday in men's soccer action at Birmingham's BSC Soccer Park.
Alex Thompson scored HPU's lone goal.
Birmingham-Southern improved to 8-3-3 (2-1-0 Big South), while HPU fell to 4-10-2, 2-2-1 in Big South play.
BSC erupted for five first-half goals. Simon, Nick Barcelona and Karim Dietz also added two assists each.
Birmingham-Southern grabbed a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the contest on Ryan Bevis' first career goal. Simon made it 2-0 in the 16th minute and Barcelona then gave the Panthers of the Alabama variety a 3-0 lead in the 20th minute.
The two other first-half goals came from Zaulk (21st and 42nd minutes).
High Point scored its goal in the 64th minute when Thompson headed in a free kick off the foot of Kenzo Tochiki.
BSC owned a 24-13 advantage in shots taken, including a 12-5 margin in shots on goal. High Point, however, held an 11-4 edge in corner kicks. Matt Long led HPU with three saves.
HPU faces No. 13-ranked Coastal Carolina next Saturday, Nov. 1, at 7:00 pm at Albion Millis Stadium.
