Holly Andrews made a free throw with 16 seconds left and the Phoenix survived two High Point shots in the final seconds to edge the Panthers, 64-63, Saturday afternoon in women's basketball action at the Koury Center.

The Panthers drop to 11-7 overall (3-3 in the Big South).

Elon improves to 11-6 and 5-1 in league play.

The hotly-contested game featured six lead changes in the second half. HPU led 38-37 at intermission following a Misty Brockman jumper with 11 seconds left before the break. It was the Panthers' only lead before halftime.

High Point led by as many as seven points at 52-45 in the second half, but the Phoenix rebounded behind the hot shooting of Andrews, the reigning Big South Player of the Year. She led all scorers with 20 points.

Elon led 63-61 with 2:26 to go after Jayme Chikos hit a free throw. Gina Rosser tied things up when she hit one-of-two free throws with 44 seconds left and 40 seconds remaining to knot it up at 63-63.

Andrews was fouled in the act of shooting on the other end, missed the first foul shot, but nailed the second to give the Phoenix a slim one-point advantage.

With the clock ticking down, Narelle Henry drove the lane and missed a running jumper with three seconds left. Stephanie Scott grabbed the loose ball and put up a shot as time expired that would have won the game for HPU, but it bounced off the rim and Elon escaped.

Brockman and Henry led High Point with 16 points apiece. Brockman also recorded a double-double (10 rebounds).

HPU hosts Winthrop Wednesday night at 7:00 pm.
