Box Score High Point used a 19-4 run early in the second half to forge ahead and held visiting UNC Asheville to just 13 points after halftime in a 59-40 win in the Big South women's basketball opener for both teams Thursday night at the Millis Center.
The Panthers (8-4, 1-0 Big South) are now 5-0 at home this season.
The Bulldogs (3-7, 0-1) controlled most of the first half and held the Panthers to 36 percent shooting while filling the nets at a .500 clip. Still, UNCA led just 27-26 at the break.
High Point's Gina Rosser scored the first basket of the second half, giving HPU the lead for good. The Panthers then ran off a 19-4 run to put things away. HPU held Asheville to 27 percent shooting (6-of-22) from the field in the second half.
HPU's Kate Jenner was the only player on either team in double-figures (13 points. Rosser and Stephanie Scott added eight points apiece for the victorious Panthers.
UNCA was led in scoring by five players -- Shantell Waters, Lindsey Roche, Kristal Hood, Sherrie Daniels, and Julie Stephenson. Each had six points. Tonisha Jackson pulled down a game-high 10 boards.
