WBB Wins Fifth Straight, Tops CCU 57-47

Misty Brockman scored a team-high 14 points to lead High Point to its fifth straight victory, a 57-47 decision over Coastal Carolina Saturday night in women's basketball at Kimbel Arena in Conway.

The Panthers improve to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in the Big South, while the Lady Chanticleers fall to 5-6, 1-2 in conference action.

The loss is the first home loss for Coastal Carolina this season.

High Point opened the game on a 10-2 run before Coastal Carolina cut the lead to 12-8 at the 13:32 mark on a made free-throw from Courtney Brown. Whitney Shearer's jumper at the 5:00 mark in the first half broke an eight-minute scoring drought for the Lady Chanticleers but the Panthers took a 30-15 lead into halftime. Turnovers plagued both teams in the first stanza with Coastal Carolina committing 15 turnovers to High Point's 16. Coastal also picked up 10 steals in the first half.

The Chanticleers came out of the break and chipped away at a 15-point Panthers lead. Coastal cut the lead to three (42-39) with 8:37 left in the game on a pair of free throws from Courtney Brown. Brown hit her third trey of the game at the 6:28 mark to cut the lead to three. High Point answered with a jumper from Narelle Henry but Shearer hit a three to bring the Chanticleers within two with 4:57 left. High Point went on an 8-2 run over the final six minutes, including six straight in the final 3:47, to give the Panthers a 10-point win.

Brockman's 14 points included seven-of-nine shooting from the free throw line. Henry added 12 for the Panthers, shooting five-of-eight from the floor, and pulling down a team-high nine rebounds.

CCU's Courtney Brown led all scorers with 19 points, 14 in the second half and three treys while shooting four-of-six from the charity stripe. Nikki Reddick chipped in 13 points for the Lady Chanticleers to go with six steals.

High Point shot 45.5 percent from the floor while Coastal Carolina shot 29.2 percent. The Panthers were 50 percent from three-point range and shot 58.3 percent from the free throw line. Coastal improved its shooting over the final 20 minutes, shooting 29.2 from the floor compared to 19.2 in the first half.

High Point continues its road swing with a 7:00 pm tip at Charleston Southern on Monday.
