High Point dropped a pair of hard-fought battles Saturday in Greensboro at the UNCG Microtel Invitational.
The Panthers fell in four games to Marshall, and stretched the host Spartans to five games.
Marshall took the morning match 30-26, 27-30, 30-22, 30-17.
The Panthers dropped game one but rallied to take game two, 30-27. Marshall (2-3) then rolled to victory with resounding performances in games three and four.
Kimberly Wright led HPU with 13 kills and 12 digs. April Shields added 13 digs, while Courtney Wilson provided 23 assists.
Against UNCG, the Panthers fell behind 2-0 before storming back to take games three and four. But the Spartans held tough and squeaked out a 16-14 win in the decisive fifth game. The linescore was 30-28, 30-22, 25-30, 32-34, 16-14.
Wright led the Panthers with a season-high 22 kills, while Tracyann Pryce added 19 kills and Kamarsha Ryan 17. Jaime Kutz had 60 assists for HPU.
Wright and Pryce were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Panthers (0-8) host North Carolina State (0-8) Tuesday night (7:00 pm) in the Millis Center.
