UNC Asheville got goals in the 33rd and 70th minutes en route to a 2-0 shutout of High Point Saturday afternoon in women's soccer action at Asheville's Greenwood Field.
The Panthers drop to 2-5-1, 0-1-1 in the Big South, while Asheville improves to 3-5 (1-1).
UNC Asheville outshot High Point 22-15 in the ninety-minute match.
The Bulldogs drew first blood on a corner kick when Ellen Sims finished off the ball that Olivia Korman hit into the penalty area with a beautiful header in the 33rd minute. The second goal came in the 70th minute, when Kelsey Dawson passed the ball just through High Point's defense to Hilary McKay's feet; which resulted in a one on one with High Point's goalkeeper Courtney Noel. McKay passed the ball into the side netting for the goal.
After the second goal, the Panthers made a strong push to score, but came up empty. "We fought for ninety minutes, but the ball just didn't bounce our way," head coach Tracie Foels said. "I am proud of the effort our girls made and we are leaving with our heads held high."
High Point hosts San Francisco on Friday at 7:00 pm.
