Barry Mitchell picked up a loose ball in front of the Davidson net and scored with 1:33 remaining in the first overtime period as the visiting Panthers upended the Wildcats, 2-1, in men's soccer action Saturday evening from Richardson Stadium.
The win extends High Point's unbeaten streak to three matches (2-3-1). Davidson drops to 3-2-1.
Davidson got on the scoreboard first when Nick Hansell scored at 24:06. Ben Kittinger assisted on the play. The score would remain 1-0 heading into the break.
Midway through the second period, High Point served a direct kick from 40 yards out towards the front of the Wildcat goal. Davidson was whistled for a foul inside the penalty box and the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick. Kenzo Tochiki converted the play at 63:45, driving the shot into the bottom right corner of the goal.
HPU's Eric Lona made seven saves in more than 98 minutes of action.
Davidson had previously beaten No. 2-ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
High Point is back in action against Big South rival Winthrop in Rock Hill. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
