High Point notched its first victory of the 2002 season with a thrilling five-set win over Wofford Friday at the Mercer University Classic.

The Panthers (1-10) edged the Terriers (8-2) by a score of 30-27, 30-23, 23-30, 25-30, and 15-8.

Senior Lindsey Steinhaus had 19 kills to lead the Panthers. Tracyann Pryce added 16 kills, and Kimberly Wright and April Shields provided 19 digs apiece.

In the day's first match, HPU fell to the host Mercer Bears. The line score was 30-25, 30-22, 30-26.

HPU got 11 kills and 14 digs from Wright and 10 kills and three blocks from Pryce.

Jaime Kutz added 35 assists.

The Panthers face Big South rival UNC Asheville Saturday at 11:00 am.
