Box Score 2 High Point dropped a pair of matches on the second day of the HPU Invitational at the Millis Center.
UNC Asheville rose from a 2-0 deficit to win the final three games and edge the Panthers 3-2 during the day, and UNC Wilmington survived a draining four-game match to take the nightcap, 3-1.
Asheville (3-1) topped the Panthers (0-4) by a line score of 27-30, 23-30, 30-22, 30-14, 15-10.
Tracyann Pryce led the Panthers with 18 kills. Casi Baker had 10 kills and 16 digs, and Kimberly Wright added 15 kills, 16 digs, and 24 assists.
UNCA got 18 kills from Frida Sigurdardottir 15 kills and 19 digs from Kelly Budnik, and 14 kills and 49 assists from Amanda Wiles.
Even though the Panthers and Bulldogs are both members of the Big South Conference, the match will not count in the league standings, since it took place in tournament play.
In the nightcap, the teams traded the first two games, and HPU led 24-19 in Game 3 before the Seahawks (1-3) won 11 consecutive points to take the game. They went on to take Game 4 in dramatic fashion, 33-31.
Wright had 17 kills and 11 assists to lead HPU, while Pryce added 13 kills. Several freshmen saw significant action, including Ashley Roth (eight kills) and Terri Eriksen (six kills, 10 digs).
The Panthers face Duke (3-0) at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Tuesday night at 7:30 pm.
