Coastal Carolina made a school-record 16 three-pointers as High Point suffered its worst loss of the Big South season, 98-76 at Kimbel Arena Saturday night.
The Chanticleers (8-15, 5-6 Big South) connected on nine first-half treys to grab a 49-35 halftime advantage. And with seven more in the second half, they handed High Point its fifth straight defeat.
High Point (8-16, 4-7) never led in the game, and committed 10 first-half turnovers. Steven Cornette and Brent Halsch each scored 12 points off the bench to lead the Panthers, while Dustin Van Weerdhuizen chipped in 11 points and Joe Knight and Jay Wallace added 10 points apiece.
Derrick Robinson paced the Chants with a game-high 21 points, while Antonio Darden scored 17 points and Justin Burton added 15 points.
Before Saturday's loss, HPU's worst conference loss this season was its 83-72 setback at UNC Asheville on Jan. 16.
High Point hosts Radford on Thursday night at 9:00 pm at the Millis Center and in front of a regional television audience on the Big South TV Network. The game can be seen on Time Warner Cable Channel 69 in High Point and Greensboro, as well as Channel 67 in Burlington and WXIV-14 in Reidsville.
