Birmingham-Southern won a hotly-contested match with High Point, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in volleyball action at the Millis Center.

BSC grabbed the victory by a linescore of 34-32, 30-28, 24-30, 30-24.

In game one, HPU (5-21) battled back from a 21-16 deficit to tie things at 28, had a game point at 29-28 and fought off three game points for BSC before the visitors took a 34-32 win.

Games two and three were also back and forth. BSC took the second game 30-28, and HPU jumped out to a 12-1 lead in game three before BSC made it close. High Point was able to pull things together and win the final three points to make it 2-1.

But BSC (13-15) pulled away in game four, winning the final four points for a 30-24 win which gave the Alabama Panthers the match.

Rachel Malmborg led BSC with 17 kills. Jenny Thomasson added 15 and Stephanie Harrington 14 on a .464 hitting percentage.

High Point was paced by Kimberly Wright's 28 kills and 21 digs. Tracyann Pryce had 15 kills, Kamarsha Ryan 13 and Lindsey Steinhaus 11. Jaime Kutz had 56 assists for HPU.

High Point returns to action Tuesday against Radford in the Millis Center. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
