High Point held powerful Coastal Carolina scoreless for 58 minutes, but the Chanticleers exploded for three second-half goals en route to a 3-0 win over the Panthers Thursday in the opening round of the 2002 Big South Championship.
The Panthers finish the season at 4-14-1, while Coastal (17-1-2) advances to Friday's semifinals.
Coastal's Joseph Ngwenya, the 2002 Big South Player of the Year, scored goals in the 59th and 67th minutes to give CCU a 2-0 lead, and Justin Stone added an insurance goal in the 71st minute.
HPU goalkeeper Eric Lona made 11 saves in his final appearance in a Panther uniform. Other High Point seniors playing in their final game included Terek Moss, Tanner Wightman, and Matt Fry.
