High Point dropped a 6-2 decision to Appalachian State Wednesday afternoon in men's soccer action at Albion Millis Stadium.
HPU falls to 3-7-1 on the season, while ASU improves to 7-2-1.
Kenzo Tochiki scored both goals for HPU. His first came in the 18th minute on a free kick, and second in the 89th minute on a penalty kick.
Steve Mellor scored a goal and assisted on two others for the Mountaineers.
Brandon Garner got ASU on the board in the 16th minute when he took a Mellor pass from eight yards away and shot it off the post and into the net. Tochiki countered in the 18th minute with an unassisted goal off a free kick over ASU goalie Greg Brooks.
The Mountaineers retook the lead in the 20th minute when Fredrik Henriksen beat HPU keeper Eric Lona to a loose ball in front of the net and scored, and added another goal before halftime when Mellor scored off an assist from Jannis Riesz. ASU led 3-1 at the half.
Benjamin Shamberger, Naeem Frederick, and Alex Carter added goals for the Mountaineers before Tochiki brought HPU within 6-2 on an 88th-minute penalty kick.
HPU makes the short trip to Greensboro for a Saturday matchup with the UNC Greensboro Spartans. Kickoff at the UNCG Soccer Stadium is set for 7:00 pm.
