Playing a man down, High Point yielded just a second-half goal to UNC Asheville's Jordan Holthouser, which held up and gave the Bulldogs a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Panthers Wednesday night at Albion Millis Stadium.

The Panthers fall to 4-10-1 (1-3-1 in the Big South). UNCA improves to 4-8-1, 2-2 in the league.

The Bulldogs dominated play in the first half, outshooting HPU 8-2. But the biggest play of the half had nothing to do with a scoring opportunity. High Point's Kirk Rudder was given a red card for a slide-tackle and sent off in the 40th minute, leaving the Panthers with just 10 men for the remainder of the game.

The Panther defense hung in and kept UNCA off the board until Greg Yelverton found a streaking Holthouser in the 63rd minute. Holthouse dribbled past the High Point defense and pushed a shot over the head of HPU keeper Eric Lona for the game's only goal.

For the game, the Bulldogs outshot the Panthers 13-5 and had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

In his final regular-season appearance at Albion-Millis Stadium, Lona made four saves. It was also the final home game for Panther seniors Matt Fry, Tanner Wightman, and Terek Moss.

High Point faces off with No. 17-ranked Coastal Carolina (one of two unbeaten teams in America) Saturday night at 7:00 pm in Conway, S.C.
