Mary Brewer's free throw with 1.7 seconds left broke an 82-82 tie and helped High Point (8-11, 3-4 Big South) hand rival Elon its first Big South loss of the year, 83-82, Saturday afternoon at the Millis Center.

Brewer, who finished with 13 points, was fouled by Elon's Courtney Nyborg as the clock ticked down, and hit one-oftwo shots. Elon's Holly Andrews, who led all scorers with 28 points, came down with the rebound and the Phoenix (10-9, 6-1) immediately called for time-out.

But the ensuing in-bounds pass was stolen by HPU's Stephanie Scott, and the Panthers celebrated.

High Point placed five players in double-figures, led by Misty Brockman (19 points). Cebronica Scott came off the bench to shoot a perfect 7-of-7 from the field (15 points). Also reaching double-figures were Narelle Henry (16 points), Brewer, and Stephanie Scott (10 points).

Elon got 16 points and eight rebounds from Jayme Chikos, and 10 from Nyborg before she fouled out.

High Point hosts Radford Wednesday night at the Millis Center. Game time is 7:00 pm.
