High Point Puts Out Flames, 73-58

Dustin Van Weerdhuizen scored a game-high 17 points and the Panthers hit five straight three-pointers during a crucial second-half stretch to knock off Liberty, 73-58, at the Vines Center.

It was High Point's first win on the road since Feb. 7, 2000 (a 56-54 win at Charleston Southern), and got the Panthers back to .500 in the Big South (3-3, 7-11 overall).

The Panthers trailed 38-36 early in the second half before Doug Alves (12 points) nailed a pair of threes, Joe Knight (11 points) spotted up from behind the arc, and Van Weerdhuizen drained two more threes to give HPU a 53-42 lead. Liberty would go on a 12-1 run to tie the score at 54-54 with 10:03 left, but the Flames went ice-cold down the stretch while the Panthers stayed hot to claim the win.

Also in double-figures for High Point was Brent Halsch (12 points). Liberty (3-17, 1-5) was led in scoring by Torin Beeler (12 points).
