Jason Cornute's two free throws with 1.8 seconds left in overtime lifted Radford to a 78-77 victory over High Point Saturday night at the Dedmon Center.Cornute, who had not seen action on the night, was substituted for Radford center Andrey Savtchenko after he was fouled attempting a lay-up with 1.8 seconds left and suffered a wrist injury.
After the second free throw, High Point (6-10, 2-2 Big South) in-bounded the ball to three-quarter court, regaining position after the ball was tipped out of bounds. The Panthers had one more shot to win the game but Dustin Van Weerdhuizen's attempt from the left corner hit the side of the backboard giving Radford (8-13, 3-3) a home league victory.
Savtchenko lead all scorers and rebounders with 27 points and 17 rebounds. The senior connected on eight-of-11 field goals and 11-of-17 free throws and a career high five blocks, all of which came in the first half. Correy Watkins, who fouled out with 1:42 left to play in regulation, added 19 points and Raymond Arrington chipped in with 14 points.
Joe Knight's 20 points paced the Panthers. Van Weerdhuizen added 18 points on five-of11 three-point field goals. Ron Barrow chipped in with 15 points and Brent Halsch led High Point on the glass with 11 rebounds.
