John Sitaridis scored is team-leading seventh goal of the season early, Barry Mitchell added another one shortly after, and High Point held off a furious Liberty rally at the end to douse the Flames, 2-1 in a Big South Conference match on Monday night at Albion Millis Stadium.
The game was a make-up of a contest originally scheduled for September 11.
Sitaridis struck on a shot from 20 yards out past Liberty keeper Dean Short in the 5th minute to give the Panthers (5-10-2, 1-4-2 Big South) an early 1-0 advantage. Teammate Barry Mitchell made it 2-0 in the 17th minute when he launched a rocket just inside the 18-yard box into the net off a deflection.
Libery (5-9, 3-2) crept back into it with a Brentley Kellum goal off assits from Ryan Lauber and Jason Streets in the 84th minute, but High Point's Eric Lona stiffened and kept the Flames out to record his fifth victory of the year.
High Point finished the Big South season strong, going 1-0-1 against two of the league's top three squads (the Panthers played Winthrop to a 2-2 tie).
