Brett Blizzard led all scorers with 23 points as visiting UNC Wilmington won a raucous non-conference matchup with High Point, 74-66, Saturday night at the Millis Center.
The Seahawks (2-1), picked to win the Colonial Athletic Association, had four starters in double-figures. High Point (1-2) got 21 points from Dustin Van Weerdhuizen, 15 from Brent Halsch and 14 from freshman Joe Knight, who also had 8 assists.
Despite outrebounding the Seahawks 35-31 and playing in front of a fired-up home crowd of 1,896, the Panthers never led in the second half thanks to UNCW's scoring punch of Blizzard, Craig Callahan (14 points), Stewart Hare (13 points) and Ed Williams (12 points).
High Point pulled within 63-57 on a layup by Ron Barrow with 3:04 to play, but the Panthers would get no closer, thanks to UNCW's precision at the line. The Seahawks canned seven free throws in the final 1:15.
