The Panthers of High Point defeated the Lady Terrier volleyball squad in a five game squeaker in the Benjamine Johnson Arena Monday night. The Panthers won with scores of 26-30, 30-26, 30-21, 20-30, 15-11.
The match was a near mirror image of the one played September 18 in High Point; in the first meeting the Lady Terriers prevailed in five games.
Wofford led for the entirety of the first game. High Point quickly took control of the second, building a lead as high as 21-11. The Lady Terriers reboudned to bring the game to within a point, but eventually fell, 26-30. The Panthers again took a large lead in the third and held off Wofford's comeback attempts. In game four, the Lady Terriers built a strong lead to force game five. The lead bounced back and forth for the first half of the game, but the Panthers came on strong at the end to win in five.
Kimberly Wright had an outstanding match for the Panthers, gathering 21 kills, 23 digs, and 2 1/2 blocks to lead her team to the win. Kamarsha Ryan entered in the second game and quickly made her mark, notching 12 kills and 13 digs. Setter Kristy Flynt had 46 assists and 20 digs, and Lindsey Steinhaus contributed 12 kills and 16 digs.
THe Panthers had 14 blocks in the match, led by Tracyann Pryce who had two solo blocks and assisted on six others.
Wofford was led by Janna Webb, who had 14 kills and seven digs on the evening. Andrea Duke and Katie Laser each had 13 kills, and Duke added four aces and 23 digs to the effort. Cristy Carter and Currie Gossett each had 11 kills. Setter Molly Bushong notched an even 50 assists.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 3-16 on the season, while Wofford falls to 11-8.
