BSC Defeats HPU in Overtime

Junior midfielder Paul Munro drove a direct free kick past backup keeper Chris Michener in the 11th minute of the first overtime to life host Birmingham-Southern over High Point, 3-2, in a rain-soaked men's college soccer affair at the BSC Soccer Park Saturday night. Munro's tally was his second of the game and snapped the Pather's five game losing streak.

BSC domintated the contest, delayed an hour and 20 minutes by area thunderstorms. Falk Terjek's third tally of the year put Birmingham-Southern up early in the 16th minute. His pass from freshman Kenny Robinson found net from 12 yards out. John Sitaridis leveled the score in the 20th on a header off a free kick for High Point (4-6-1).

Munro's 58th minute header off a Terjek header pass in front put BSC up 2-1. Nate LeMaire scored off a rebound in front in the 83rd to send it to the extra frame where Munro was true to the BSC faithful who weathered the torrential downpour throughout the contest.

Birmingham-Southern out-shot High Point 18-12 and shot on gaol by an8-7 advantage. Ryan Simms was valiant in net, stopping five shots in 101 minutes played.

The win put BSC's record against Big South Conference opponents at 2-2. High Point is 0-1-1 in the league, but Birmingham-Southern's win will not count against them as the Panthers are provisional Big South and NCAA Division I members.
