Panthers Come From Behind to Force Overtime, Tie with Chanticleers

High Point trailed 1-0 and 2-1 in the second half, but rallied and forced overtime as the Panthers and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers played to a 2-2 tie in a Big South Conference men's soccer match Wednesday night at Albion Millis Stadium.

The Panthers stand at 4-5-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in the Big South Conference.

After a scoreless first half, the offenses heated up in the second 45-minutes. Coastal got on the board first, as freshman Baldur Knutsson took a pass from freshman Ryan Johnson and found the back of the net past Panther keeper freshman Matt Long for a 1-0 lead at the 62:28 mark.

The Panthers evened the match at 1-1 as junior Barry Mitchell scored his first goal of the season with the assist going to senior John Sitaridis for a 1-1 match at the 79:52 mark. The Chants came back just three minutes later, as sophomore Dean Pasquini rebounded a miss by junior Tobin Whitmarsh and found the back of the net for a 2-1 advantage at the 82:27 mark.

The Panthers evened the match just 30 seconds later, as freshman Rick Hanson scored the first goal of his Panther career, with the assist going to Mitchell.

The two teams played two scoreless overtime periods for the tie. Both teams had 10 shots, with Long collecting one save.
