High Point University senior
Nick Barbour competed in the Hampton
Hotels Men's 3-Point Contest live on ESPN. The event was held at Tulane's Fogelman Arena in New Orleans. Barbour led the nation in three-point percentage and finished second in three-pointers per game this season.
Barbour's appearance in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championship was the first ever for a Panther. It was the second year in a row that High Point University was represented in a major television feature during NCAA Final Four coverage after senior
Shay Shine was part of the Dunks of the Year show on CBS in 2011.
Barbour scored 11 in the first round and didn't advance to the semifinals. He hit his first shot but couldn't get into a rhythm until the end. He hit two shots off the third rack, two off the fourth rack and hit all five shots on the fifth rack.
An All-Big South first team selection, Barbour hit 48.4 percent of his three-pointers to lead the NCAA in 2011-12. His 3.48 three-pointers per game ranked second only to Vanderbilt junior John Jenkins. He was also a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) District 3 first team honoree.
Barbour is the Panthers' Div. I career leader in scoring (2,121 points) and averaged 20.4 points per game this season. He is just the second HPU player to lead the team in scoring four seasons in a row. Barbour holds HPU records for three-pointers in a career (314), in a season (108 in 2011-12) and in a game (10 during the 2009-10 season).
