HIGHLIGHT VIDEO
Nick Barbour became High Point University's all-time leader in three-pointers made in an overtime win against Gardner-Webb. That type of career milestone is enough to get you on the countdown but Barbour made it even more of a memorable event by scoring 34 points, including a three-pointer that forced overtime and a trey in overtime, to lead the Panthers to an 81-77
win over Gardner-Webb on Feb. 4, in the Millis Center.
With 0.6 seconds on the clock, Barbour dialed up a three on a handoff from
Shay Shine, which tied the game at 67-67 and sent it into overtime.
Gardner-Webb took a 72-70 lead in overtime but Barbour shot back with his seventh three-pointer of the game to give HPU the lead back for good with under a minute remaining.
Barbour entered the game with 281 three-pointers and went 7-for-10 from beyond the arc against Gardner-Webb, breaking Eugene Harris's HPU record of 283 that he set from 2006-10. Barbour went 9-for-15 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the line to make up his 34 points. He scored 28 points in the second half and overtime combined.
Barbour finished his collegiate
career ranked in High Point's top five in 11 different categories, including No. 1 all-time in three-pointers made (314) and attempted (780), second all-time in scoring (2,121 points), second in free-throws made (487), fourth in field-goals made (660) and tied for fifth in steals (129). This season, Barbour set HPU records for three-pointers made (108) and attempted (223) and his .484 three-point percentage ranked third all-time. Barbour scored 633 points and averaged 20.4 points, both of which rank third in HPU's Div. I era. Barbour became just the second player in HPU history to lead the team in scoring all four years.
This won't be his last appearance on the countdown.
