Rev. Tony Kindred joined the High Point University athletic department as a sports chaplain in July 2018.
Kindred was a professional golfer before running a real estate development business for 35 years. Throughout his career, he maintained a long-standing relationship with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which led him to attend Pfeiffer University and completing a Master of Arts in Practical Theology embarking on a new career in Sports Ministry. Kindred was Commissioned at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Division of Faith Health, Department of Chaplaincy & Clinical Ministry in the summer of 2017. Kindred was inducted into Theta Alpha Kappa Honor Society in May of 2018. Theta Alpha Kappa is a theological honor society for Seminary graduates at the top of their graduating class. Reverend Kindred is a member of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Kindred graduated from Florida in 1971 with a degree in banking and finance. He was a part of the 1968-69 national championship team with the Gators.
Kindred and his wife, Ellen, live in Jamestown, and have four children and 11 grandchildren.
