Cory Conzemius joined the High Point University rowing staff as an assistant coach in May of 2024.
"I am thrilled to welcome Cory back to the High Point University community," Deitrick said. "This is truly a full circle moment for both of us and I know together we will be able to build a championship level program, one that we both envisioned years ago coaching the HPU club team. Cory brings a wealth of knowledge with him from his time as a juniors and collegiate coach. He has a passion for numbers and analyzing data to help his athletes develop into elite rowers. I'm grateful that Cory sees the potential here and chose us as his next step."
Conzemius joins the Panthers for his second stint as he was the one who founded the club rowing program on campus back in 2012. From 2012-2014, Conzemius coached the HPU club rowing team and by his second season, he had 60-plus student-athletes competing. Coach Deitrick was brought in by Conzemius to help coach the club team as now they are both back in High Point ready to conquer a Division I women's rowing program on campus.
"Thank you to Head Coach Jessica Deitrick, Athletic Director Dan Hauser and others that have provided me with the opportunity to return to HPU twelve years after I started the club rowing team," Conzemius said. "I am incredibly excited to work with Coach Deitrick in building the women's rowing team, and work with the student-athletes to build the foundation of a strong culture and fast crews. I look forward to being part of the High Point community again."
In the most recent years, Conzemius has spent his time as the head coach of the men's and women's rowing program at Oklahoma City University since 2021. In Oklahoma City, he has reshaped the culture of the program focusing on creating a high-performance environment for the student-athlete. Conzemius coached crew performances at races such as Head of the Charles and the Dad Vail Regatta. He improved the team morale by developing an innovative way to approach training which inevitably made an impact on the student-athletes performance in the classroom.
In 2023, Conzemius was the head coach of the uni-team USA's rowing squad for the 2023 World University Games held in Chengdu, China. In just over a month, he will be heading to Rotterdam, Netherlands to be the Lead Sculling coach for the 2024 World University Championships.
Conzemius also took his talents to Madison, Wisconsin to be the head coach at Camp Randall Rowing Club. There he provided leadership for a program of 100-plus athletes at the youth level and 15-plus adults. He developed a five-year plan which included analyzing the budget, equipment, programming, staffing, team culture, and other areas of the club. In year one, he sent a program record six crews to nationals after taking over mid-year. In year two, he steered them through COVID; and won two "virtual" national championships. In year three, he sent 14 crews to youth nationals; 10 crews advanced to the semifinals and two crews medaled.
