High Point University Vice President and Athletic Director Dan Hauser announced the appointment of Dr. Brielle Spencer-Tyree as the HPU Faculty Athletics Representative in August 2026.
"On behalf of our High Point University student-athletes and the entire Athletic Department we want to thank Dr. Brielle Spencer-Tyree for volunteering to serve as our new Faculty Athletic Representative," HPU Vice President and Athletic Director Dan Hauser said. "We are very fortunate to have a faculty member on campus who not only understands the experience of being a collegiate student-athlete, but also had a prolific career at High Point University as a member of our women's soccer team. I'm confident that Dr. Spencer-Tyree will bring outstanding leadership and unique advocacy into the role of Faculty Athletic Representative. With this announcement, I would be remised if I did not recognize our outgoing FAR Dr. Gregg Hundt who retired from HPU in 2025-26. Dr. Hundt served Panther student-athletes for 14 years in this role and championed the Faculty Athletic Committee to recommend multiple university initiatives that enhanced the lives of our HPU student-athletes. Dr. Hundt is handing the leadership baton off to new FAR Dr. Spencer-Tyree in a wonderful position for future success. We are blessed to have these great professors on our campus."
A two-time HPU graduate and four-year women’s soccer student-athlete, Dr. Spencer-Tyree has always thrived on and off the field. She is a three-time Big South Conference Champion and earned two NCAA Tournament appearances for the Purple & White. During her four-years (2008-2011), Dr. Spencer-Tyree was a defender and appeared in 86 games with 81 starts. The two-time Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year (2010 &2011) was named to the Big South All-Tournament team as a sophomore in 2009 and earned Big South All-Academic Team nods in 2010 and 2011. She capped her career as the conference record holder for the most minutes played (7,223) and as the Christenberry Award Winner, which is the highest academic award a player can receive from the Big South, as a double-major (math and physics) student-athlete. To this day, she is third for the most career games played (86) in conference history and seventh in minutes logged.

As a former HPU student-athlete, my experience competing here was one of the most impactful and formative chapters of my life; I know the challenges, opportunities, and growth that come with balancing academics and athletics. I’m excited for the opportunity to be engaged in the athletics department, and I hope to be a strong advocate and source of support for our student-athletes! Go Panthers!”
After her athletic career, Dr. Spencer-Tyree served as a graduate assistant for the women’s soccer program (2012 & 2013), while getting her Master of Arts in Secondary Math at HPU.
Dr. Spencer-Tyree has been teaching mathematics for over a decade at HPU. She served as a mathematics instructor from 2014-2024 and currently holds the position as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics since 2024.
She earned her BS and BA from HPU in 2012 and her MAT in 2013 before receiving her PhD at Virginia Tech in 2019.
