HPU Marching Band

HPU Marching Band Picture

As the largest instrumental ensemble on campus performing for a variety of events, the HPU Marching Panthers and Pep Band is often the face of the university. We are a proud band family striving for excellence while building a strong community and having fun. The Marching Panthers and Pep Band are comprised of wind and percussion players from the entire student body. You do not have to be a music major or minor to be in the ensemble. Our band members receive a scholarship for their efforts. The scholarship reflects the university’s appreciation and commitment to the Marching Panthers and Pep Band and totals $20,000 spread over four years! Whether you have been in a marching band or not, we have a place for you in our band family.

GET RECRUITED

There is an audition to join the band and earn our scholarship. All wind, percussion, guitar, bass, synthesizer players, color guard, and majorette members are required to audition for the band. These auditions will take place starting in November either in-person or by video and will conclude in April. Select audition dates will be posted on our website. We are looking for ways to adopt you into our family, not exclude you from our group. PLEASE give the audition a try!

The Marching Panthers perform at significant events on campus and perform multiple times off campus representing the university and recruiting prospective band members. The HPU Pep Band plays at Men’s and Women’s home basketball games at the Qubein Center, Women’s volleyball games at the Millis Center, select sporting events throughout the year, and at various functions around campus. In addition, members of the Pep Band travel with the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams to the Big South Tournament and any additional postseason tournaments.

The Panther Pulse Drumline is an integral part of our performances. The drumline performs at select Men’s and Women’s soccer games and travels to postseason tournament games with the teams. Additionally, the drumline performs regularly at Men’s and Women’s basketball games.

The HPU Color Guard is a vital member of the Marching Panthers and performs with the band wherever they go. Additionally, the color guard is laying the foundation to begin winterguard competitions in the spring of 2024.

All Marching Panthers are required to attend Band Camp in August before classes start. (specific dates are determined in the preceding spring semester) As a member of the Marching Panthers, you will be able to move into your room earlier than other students. You will be able to meet new people, explore campus, and start preparing our first show for move-in weekend. Our band members have shared that band camp is one of their favorite times of the year. We work hard, but we also have a LOT of fun! Please make plans to join us at Band Camp.

Rehearsals begin with the start of classes in the Fall and are held on Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings. For more information, please contact email  hpuband@highpoint.edu.
