Head Coach Aaron McGuiness: "I thought when we went down early, our heads dropped. We had patches within the game where we did quite well. I don't think we were dynamic and or aggressive enough in that final third. Taking that goal early, obviously changes our mindset and not for the positive. We need to really focus in on that, reflect, and understand how we can come back into games and be better from it."
The Catamounts snuck out to an early lead with a strike in the fifth minute by Sofia Goclowski to start today's contest. High Point kept looking for an opportunity to strike back but WCU found a way to stop the Panthers game plan.
Courtney Andruczk fired off a shot in the 20th minute that had the looks of a goal, but WCU's keeper was able to get her gloves on the ball to stop the momentum. HPU went into the half down, 1-0.
The second half saw High Point trying to find the equalizer as the Catamounts kept attacking looking to add to their lead. Late in the half, the Panthers had chances on four corner kicks but just could not make something of it.
Bella Burr got her foot on a shot after the first corner kick, but it was blocked by WCU before reaching the net.
The Catamounts were able to run the clock down as they grabbed the 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.
Up Next: High Point will host College of Charleston on Sunday, August 24 at 1:00 p.m.
