Head Coach Aaron McGuiness: "It was nice to keep that level going on at home. Our last couple home games have been good and to continue that was really nice. It's putting us in a better position for playoffs, so that is the whole goal right now is to continue to push for that."
Before the match, HPU celebrated five seniors in honor of senior day.
Alex Murphy,
Aubrey McKessy,
Leah Malone,
Peyton Gilmore, and
Courtney Andruczk were those honored in the pre-game ceremonies.
High Point wasted no time jumping out to an early lead as Murphy scored her first of the season, assisted by
Sabba Haghgoo in the 3rd minute. It was only fitting that Murphy would score on her senior day. She took a beautiful cross from Haghgoo and booted it to the back of the net to get the Panthers rolling early.
McKessy kept the Runnin' Bulldogs off the board in the first half with four saves as the Panthers put together a seven shot performance to send a 1-0 lead to the break.
Early in the second half, High Point extended its lead with a
Bella Burr goal to bring her season tally to four. Burr was right there in front of the net to take the deflection off the crossbar and send it right back to the back of the net to give HPU a cushion.
The Panthers fighting to net another towards the end of the match as
Ally Ruiz did just that in the 81st minute. Ruiz scored her first career goal to hand HPU the 3-0 lead as she fired one off the feed from
Kari Powell.
That set the Panthers up to coast to the finish line with just nine minutes to go as High Point secured the 3-0 shutout victory on Senior Day. McKessy tallied her third clean sheet of the season while making four saves on nine shots faced.
Up Next: High Point will head to Winthrop University for the regular season finale on Wednesday, October 29 at 6:00 p.m.
