Overall Standings
CLEVELAND, OHIO — The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics announced the final Division I LEARFIELD Directors' Cup 2023-2024 standings on Wednesday that featured High Point University Athletics' second-highest finish.
Among DI-AAA universities, the Panthers ranked No. 14 of 101 DI-AAA schools without football while finishing No. 122 out of 363 Division I universities in the overall NACDA DI LEARFIELD standings. High Point's highest finish came in 2021 when the Panthers finished third in DI-AAA and No. 77 in the LEARFIELD standings.
The Panthers tallied 145.50 points during the 2023-2024 academic year, earning points from volleyball, men's soccer, baseball and men's and women's indoor/outdoor track and field.
"High Point University continues to transform into one of the best athletic programs in the country," HPU Vice President and Athletic Director Dan Hauser said. "Our finish at No. 122 in the LEARFIELD standings represents the top 33 percent of all 363 NCAA Division I programs. Our HPU student-athletes and coaches are focused on being nationally relevant and competitive. Each year we experience growth in NCAA Tournament wins and the number of HPU teams that advance to the post-season. Our future goal is to consistently finish in the top-75 overall and in the top-5 in the D1-AAA division. We are well on our way to achieve these milestones and our High Point University team is ready for the challenge!"
High Point was sixth in the state of North Carolina behind: UNC (7), Duke (17), NC State (21), Wake Forest (56), and Charlotte (94).
HPU finished above multiple members of the Big East teams: Marquette (129), St. John's (152), Xavier (178), Butler (210), DePaul (234) and Seton Hall (306). The Panthers were also above the Big 12 Conference's Cincinnati (259).
High Point finished over many other regional/private universities of note: Coastal Carolina (123), Furman (139), Richmond (154), UNCW (170), Appalachian State (178), William & Mary (192), Wofford (202), East Carolina (217), Campbell (243), UNC Greensboro (247), College of Charleston (253), and Elon (tied for No. 307 which represents all universities that did not score a point).
The Panthers were over 100 placements higher than any Big South Conference school: HPU (122), UNC Asheville (217), Gardner-Webb (244), Longwood (262), Presbyterian (262), Radford (262), USC Upstate (262), Charleston Southern (262) and Winthrop (306).
