CHARLOTTE, N.C. — For the third time this season, High Point University has a women's lacrosse student-athlete selected as Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week as
Ava Welsh received the honor for the first time, the conference announced Tuesday.
In 30 minutes of play, the freshman goalkeeper racked up a career-high 12 saves in the Panthers' 17-14 win over San Diego State Sunday. Welsh, a native of Ellicott, Md., also corralled two ground balls to help HPU seal the deal against the Aztecs.
