Head Coach Aaron McGuiness: "It was a good response after the result on Saturday and that's something we talked about needing to see. They did really well in controlling the game and making sure we bounced back. It was nice to seal the deal at the end and make it a bit more comfortable. We defended well and didn't allow them to break our back line. In possession, we kept the ball and made them work. We were solid tonight and made them keep play in front of us."
It was only a matter of time before the Panthers found the back of the net on a chilly Wednesday night.
Firing off 10 shots in the first half, HPU found pay dirt when
Tessa Carlin and
Meg Roden teamed up for a beautiful double-assist to find
Sabba Haghgoo in the 30th minute.
The freshman's team-leading fourth goal put the Panthers ahead for good, marking her third goal over the past four games. The assists were the first for Carlin and Roden apiece in Purple & White.
Aubrey McKessy and the defense were lights out as the unit limited the Blue Hose to only one shot in the second half and three total. McKessy had two saves and extended her Big South-best clean sheet total to seven.
The Panthers added onto their goal total when
Alex Murphy created separation on the outside before feeding a perfect ball to
Kari Powell in the 88th minute. The duo put the finishing touches on the victory, which was Powell's first career goal and Murphy's first assist this season.
Up Next: The Panthers are back on the road for a Big South matchup at Charleston Southern Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m.
