HPU attended the Army Invitational last weekend in West Point, N.Y. The Panthers first played Liberty University, a team that had yet to lose a set this season. High Point went five sets with the Flames, falling by three points in the fifth. The Flames went on to win the tournament, with the Yale University Bulldogs being the only other team to win a set over Liberty. Next up, the Panthers played the Bulldogs. High Point only gave up one set to Yale, claiming a 3-1 victory. Lastly, HPU faced off against its host. The Panthers took the first set against Army, winning by a 10-point margin. Army battled back the next set, winning by only two points. High Point flipped the score in the third, beating its opponent, 25-23. In the fourth, and final set of the match, the Panthers dominated Army, winning 25-14, securing the dub.
Wofford College faced off against South Carolina State University, Georgia State University, and Elon University in its home invitational this past weekend. Wofford first played SCSU. The Bulldogs dominated their opponent, winning one set by an 18-point margin. The game ended with a 3-0 Wofford victory. The Bulldogs played Georgia State next, where they once again destroyed their opponent, winning one of their sets by 18 points. Wofford played Elon in the last game of the tournament. Elon put up the biggest fight of the participants, with the biggest margin of the game being only eight points; however, the Bulldogs still beat Elon, 3-0, walking away from the tournament having swept each team there.
HPU has won against Wofford nine out of 12 times the two teams have played, starting in 1999. Their last matchup was in 2019, where the Panthers swept the Bulldogs in three easy sets.
Heading into the High Point Invitational, East Tennessee State University competed in the Tennessee Tech Invitational this past weekend. ETSU was first matched up against its host, Tennessee Tech University. The Buccaneers fought hard against the Golden Eagles, but fell to Tennessee Tech in only three matches. Following the tough loss, ETSU was matched up against Cincinnati University. The Bucs lost their first match to Cincinatti, falling by 12 points. ETSU fought back in the second, winning by a two-point margin; however, its momentum wasn't enough to carry them through the next two sets. The Buccaneers lost to the Bearcats, 3-1, while their last game of the tournament was against Kennesaw State University. ETSU lost the first two sets, 25-12 and 25-18, respectively. The Bucs fought back in the third, winning 25-16 and preventing the Owls from claiming a clean sweep. The Bucs couldn't hold the momentum, and lost the fourth set by four points, ending the tournament without an ETSU victory.
The last time High Point met ETSU on the court, the Panthers walked away with a narrow victory after an intense five-set battle, with the last set ending 17-15. HPU has played the Buccaneers four times since 2005, with the Panthers most recent matchup being their only win.
Davidson College remains undefeated this year, with a 6-0 record. Davidson hosted its Wildcats Classic this past weekend against Queens University of Charlotte, Northern Illinois University, and the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Davidson was first matched up against Queens. The Wildcats took the first set, 16-25. The Royals put up a fight the next two sets, but were unable to edge out a victory, losing 22-25, and 20-25, respectively, resulting in a Davidson sweep. Next up, the Wildcats played Northern Illinois. Davidson took the first set by three points, but the Huskies fought back, claiming the second 25-18. The Wildcats buckled down and claimed the next two sets, securing a 3-1 victory. Lastly, Davidson played Wilmington. The first set was a harrowing battle that the Seahawks barely won, 30-28. The Wildcats didn't get discouraged, and claimed the next three sets, securing a victory over Wilmington, and taking the tournament championship title.
High Point has beat Davidson eight of the 14 times the two teams have played since their first matchup in 2003. The last time the two cats went head-to-head, the Panthers dominated their opponent in three quick sets, leaving the Wildcats unable to reach 20 points in a set.

High Point played East Carolina University Sunday for the "Morgan's Message Game" that aims to spread awareness of student-athlete's mental health. Both teams took the same amount of shots in the first half, with ECU able to convert two of those to goals. After intermission, Lilly Neubauer scored her first collegiate goal with a stellar assist from Bri Davis in the 58th minute. The Pirates wasted no time responding to Neubauer's goal, placing the ball in the net 10 minutes later. The Panthers were unable to land another shot, leaving the score with a HPU loss, 3-1.
The University of Maryland Baltimore County played George Washington University Sunday. The game was scoreless at half, but the GWU was able to score off a penalty kick in the 51st minute. With 10 minutes left in the game, the Revolutionaries scored once again, claiming a 2-0 victory over UMBC.
The Panthers and the Retrievers have not yet played each other, according to the HPU Athletics website.
Old Dominion University played a harrowing game against William and Mary University. Neither team was able to score in the first half. After intermission, WMU went to work and scored off a loose ball. The Tribe's goal ended ODU's second-longest scoreless run in its program's history as the Monarchs hadn't given up a goal in almost 509 minutes to start the season. The longest-scoreless run for ODU was achieved in 2018, when the team went 528:41 without giving up a goal. Almost five minutes after the Tribe's goal, ODU stole the ball and fired a shot into the right corner of WMU's net. The Monarch's equalizer allowed the team to keep its unbeaten streak, as the game ended 1-1.
High Point and Old Dominion have only ever met on the field twice in 2008 and 2009. Both games resulted in an Old Dominion win, with a score of 1-0.

HPU secured its first win of the season against the University of Evansville last Friday. High Point came out with an early lead in the eighth minute when Finn McRobb tapped the ball into the net after it rebounded off the opposing goalkeeper. Evansville warmed up late in the first half, placing the ball just out of the goalkeeper's reach, tying the game 1-1. For most of the second half, neither team was able to find an edge to score again until Tony Pineda headed the ball past the goalkeeper with only five minutes left on the clock, securing the first Panther victory of the season.
No. 5 Marshall University secured its third consecutive shutout against Xavier on Friday. The Herd struck quickly against the Musketeers, scoring their first goal at the eighth minute. Marshall wasted no time furthering its lead, as the team scored again just four minutes later. The rest of the half was quiet, as neither team was able to edge out a goal. After intermission, Marshall once again scored quickly at the 57th minute. Xavier took two shots on goal during the game, but was unable to score. The game ended with a Herd victory, 3-0.
It's been seven years since HPU went head-to-head with Marshall, and have battled five times since their first matchup in 2000. High Point has collected two wins against Marshall, and lost three. The Panthers were able to collect a win over Marshall, 1-0, the last time the two teams met in 2016.
