HIGH POINT, N.C. — In this week of High Point University Athletics, HPU welcomes back alumni and family to jumpstart Big South Conference play as all parents' admission is free across all three home events. Men's soccer travels to the College of William and Mary before heading home and welcoming USC Upstate Saturday. Volleyball plays Radford to kick off Family Weekend Friday, and then women's soccer takes the field hosts Winthrop in the first game of Saturday's soccer doubleheader.

HPU had an electric game against Triad rival University of North Carolina Greensboro. The Panthers got to work quickly as Alex Abril shot and scored from a pass by Tony Pineda only three minutes into the game. Later in the first half, Seth Antwi stole the ball from the Spartans, leading to an open goal and 2-0 lead for the Panthers going into halftime. After intermission, the Panthers took advantage of a corner kick. Finn McRobb used his head, literally, to place the ball into the net. The game ended with a High Point victory, 3-1.

The College of William and Mary played the Northeastern University Huskies this past weekend. The Huskies attacked quickly in the first minute, but W&M goalie saved the shot. The rest of the half passed quietly, as neither team was able to find an edge to score a goal. In the 63rd minute, the Tribe finally found the opening, placing the ball in Northeastern's net, breaking the scoreless game. The matchup ended with a Tribe victory, 1-0.

High Point has played William and Mary a total of four times since their first matchup in 2001. Last time the two teams saw each other was in 2019. The first half remained scoreless until HPU shot and scored at the 36th minute. Ten minutes after halftime, the Panthers scored again. William & Mary was able to net a goal in the second, but it wasn't enough to overcome the two-point deficit, leading to a Panther victory, 2-1. The most recent win bumped High Point to two wins over William & Mary out of the four times they've played each other.

University of South Carolina Upstate last played against Liberty University. Liberty took an early lead in the second minute after a penalty kick. Less than 15 minutes later, the Flames scored again, furthering their lead to 2-0. Upstate retaliated with a goal two minutes later at the 18th minute, where the score stayed until intermission. After halftime, Liberty went to work, scoring again within four minutes of the second half. With less than 10 minutes left in the game, the Flames scored a fourth time, putting the score to 4-1 and claiming the victory over Upstate.

High Point last played USC Upstate the previous year. HPU quickly went to work, scoring its first goal within five minutes. Thirty minutes later, the Panthers took advantage of a penalty kick, adding another tally to their score. Not long after, High Point scored another goal with five minutes left in the half, leaving the score 3-0 at intermission. USC Upstate was able to get the ball in the net in the second, while High Point was unable to score again after an electric first half. The game ended with an HPU victory, 3-1. High Point has won seven times, and tied three against USC Upstate, but the Panthers have never lost a game against the Spartans.

The last time High Point stepped onto the court, it was matched up against fellow Panther, No. 8 University of Pittsburgh. HPU took an early lead in the first, pushing the score to 12-8; however Pittsburgh battled back, evening the score to 15s. Pitt took advantage of the tied score, taking the lead 22-19, before claiming the set, 25-20. In the second, HPU once again took an early lead, but their adversary warmed up, taking the second set 25-18. High Point lost its momentum in the third. Unable to flesh out enough big hits, HPU fell to the opposing Panther 25-12, and lost the match 3-0.

Radford University had a tough weekend at the George Mason Tournament in Fairfax, Va. Radford was first matched up against the undefeated Brown University Bears. The Highlanders struggled in the first set leading to a 25-13 loss. Radford battled back in the second set, with six kills and nine errors for the Bears, but it wasn't enough to secure the set. Radford lost the second 25-21. The Highlanders buckled down in the third, forcing the set to extra points, but it wasn't enough and Radford lost the last set 27-25, while the Bears secured a clean sweep. The next day, Radford battled its host, George Mason University. The Highlanders fought against their opponent, but it wasn't enough to avoid a second sweep of the weekend. Radford lost 3-0 to the Patriots, 25-21, 25-19, and 25-18. Finally, the Highlanders faced their last opponent, Robert Morris University. Radford came to play securing an early lead in the first set, but ultimately lost due to a long run by the Patriots. Determined not to be swept a third time, the Highlanders buckled down, racking up 17 kills in the second and taking the set 25-20. Radford lost its momentum and fumbled the last two sets, 25-11 and 25-16, respectively, leading to Radford's third and final loss of the tournament.

High Point has played Radford a whopping 54 times since their first matchup in 1999. Last time the two teams met on the court, HPU swept the Highlanders and won the last set by a 12-point margin. The Panthers have won 34 of their games against Radford, and lost 20. Their longest win streak is 11 games.

HPU last played North Carolina State University. NC State scored the first goal of the game at the 6th minute. After intermission, High Point got aggressive on offense, scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Tessa Carlin scored both goals for her first scores in Purple & White as she took an assist from Fain Buete in the 52nd minute and one from Lindsey DeHaven in the 60th. HPU was able to maintain its lead for most of the half until NC State scored the equalizer at the 76th minute. The game ended with a 2-2 draw, which was HPU's first draw against a Power 5 opponent since 2015 and the fourth all-time.

Winthrop University last played East Tennessee State University. The game remained scoreless for a good portion of play as the first, and only goal was scored in the 73rd minute by ETSU. Winthrop had one shot on goal that was saved by the opposing goalie. In the last 20 minutes of the game, the Eagles buckled down on offense, shooting four shots in an attempt to equalize the score, but the game ended with ETSU taking the dub.

High Point played Winthrop last season in October. The Panthers quickly went to work, scoring their first two goals within the first five minutes of the game. The rest of the half was quiet, as neither the Panthers nor the Eagles landed the ball in the net. After intermission, HPU scored again at the 55th minute. The game ended with a Panther victory, 3-0. High Point has played Winthrop a total of 25 times, and holds a 15-6-4 record against the Eagles.
