Head Coach Aaron McGuiness: "We weren't good enough today. We strayed away from our gritty approach, and they got the best of us. When you play against a good team and you don't match their physicality, these are the consequences. We'll have a good look at ourselves and how we can improve going into our next game at NC State."
The Panthers attempted to claw back from a first-half goal deficit. After conceding a goal in the 22nd minute, the Panthers kept it an one-score game until the 72nd minute.
Ellyn Casto recorded a new single-game high as a Panther, corralling 11 saves which she did on two separate occasions at the University of San Diego. The graduate transfer's single-game career high was against BYU in 2021 when she had 17 saves.
The HPU defense and midfield contained many attacks that saw the Monarchs fire off 27 shots, including 18 in the second half alone.
Alex DePerno and
Ella Vaughn logged 90 minutes apiece on the backline and made a handful of defensive plays.
For the Panthers, they were only able to muster three shots as
Courtney Andruczk registered her first two in her HPU debut.
Kristarae Poell was the other to record a shot.
Up Next: HPU heads down the road for its final non-conference game, a matchup in Raleigh with NC State Thursday at 7 p.m.
