BOONE, N.C. — Mother Nature impacted the High Point University women's soccer team's trip to Appalachian State University as the squads endured a three-hour lightning delay before playing to a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon.

SCORE: High Point 0, App State 0
RECORDS: High Point (1-1-2), App State (2-1-1)
Head Coach Aaron McGuiness: "We are unlucky to not be coming home with the win. I'm really happy with the way we played, particularly in the second half. Throughout the entire game, our build-up play was good, and we were strong in the midfield. In the second half, we really stepped up in the final third and we created several chances. Moving forward, we just have to make sure we are converting these chances."
After a wet and soggy first half, the rain died down and the shots started ripping for the Panthers. HPU outshot App State, 12-6, in the second half alone with a handful of chances coming in the final minutes. Overall, HPU held a 16-11 advantage in shots.
The Panthers held 51 percent of the possession, attacking the box and putting themselves in position to score.
Meg Roden was back on the pitch after a game absence and led with four shots, three being on goal, while
Lindsey DeHaven and
Fain Buete had three shots apiece.
HPU secured its second straight shutout with
Ellyn Casto in goal. The graduate student secured four saves behind a fierce backline of
Alex DePerno,
Ella Vaughn,
Carly Smith, and
Megan Garmey.
Emma Schossler was also key off the bench with feeds in the box that nearly resulted in goals.
Up Next: The Panthers return home for a matchup with Florida Golf Coast University Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m.
