CHARLOTTE, N.C. — High Point University President Nido R. Qubein is pleased to announce the Big South Conference Council of Chief Executive Officers has voted to award the 2024 Hercules Tires Big South Men's & Women's Basketball Championships to High Point University, as released by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
 
A formal press conference inside the Nido and Mariana Qubein Center has been scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. League officials, High Point City members, and HPU supporters will be in attendance.
 
"High Point University is proud and privileged to host the Hercules Tires Big South Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, and we will do everything possible to make it an extraordinary weekend," Qubein said. "We are investing generously in both financial and human capital to ensure a successful tournament environment. Hosting the Big South Tournaments is an enormous win for our city and the entire Piedmont Triad Region, with thousands visiting and staying multiple days in local hotels, shopping and dining."
 
High Point will host the combined tournament for the first time, which will be Wednesday, March 6 through Sunday, March 10 at the 4,500-seat Nido and Mariana Qubein Center on the HPU campus.  It will be the just the sixth time that all rounds of the Big South Basketball Championships will be held in the state of North Carolina. The previous times were in 1999 and 2000 in Asheville, 2016 in Buies Creek and Asheville, and 2021 and 2022 in Charlotte.
 
"We are absolutely elated to partner with High Point University in hosting the 2024 Hercules Tires Men's and Women's Basketball Championships," Big South Commissioner Sherika A. Montgomery said. "I am confident our student-athletes, coaches, fans, administrators, and community partners will have a tremendous March Madness experience.  We look forward to working with Dr. Nido Qubein, Dan Hauser and the High Point community in the coming months to create a supreme event and memorable experience for our student-athletes."
 
Opened in September 2021, the Qubein Center is one of the nation's finest and elegant basketball arenas in the country. Qubein Center basketball attendance has ranked in the top three nationally the past two seasons for facilities up to 5,000 seat capacity and is home to the second-largest videoboard in the state of North Carolina. 
 
Other venue amenities feature a Quince Imaging court projection system, Daktronic ribbon boards, courtside suite and club level suites/loge seating and full chairback seating. In addition, High Point will provide free parking for all fans attending the 2024 Hercules Tires Big South Basketball Championship.

HPU previously hosted the Big South Women's Basketball Championship from 2009-12 at the Millis Center — still the longest consecutive host of the women's event in league history. High Point also hosted various Big South men's and women's conference tournament games as part of the conference's home site/earned seed format utilized at times from 2003-21.
 
More information on the 2024 Championships, including the formats, schedules, finalized game times and ticket information, will be announced at a later date.
