HIGH POINT, N.C. — This Week in High Point University Athletics, women's basketball hits the road for a couple games while men's basketball stays home to play two in-state foes.

HPU last stepped on the court to play Johnson C. Smith University. High Point opened the game with a three followed by a layup to take an early lead that the Panthers refused to give up, holding the advantage over the Golden Bulls for the duration of the game. HPU performed extraordinarily well on defense, preventing JCSU from scoring until halfway through the first while holding a 10-point lead. During the second quarter, High Point continued to push points, securing a 14-point advantage before the end of the half. The Golden Bulls came out of halftime ready to play, cutting the Panthers' lead down to seven, but HPU wasn't ready to throw in the towel, extending its lead once again up to 14 points in the final quarter of the game. Johnson C. Smith splashed in a three during the final seconds of regulation to cut HPU's lead down to 11 points, however the Panthers stepped away with a victory, 61-50.

Colorado State University last played the University of Texas at El Paso. UTEP opened the game with a jumper before adding a point to its score off a free throw. Colorado quickly responded by splashing in a three. After being held to eight in the first, Colorado State worked its way back in the second to cut UTEP's lead down to three points before sinking a three to tie up the game as the two teams broke for intermission. The Miners opened the second half with a made jumper, but Colorado State retaliated with a three, taking the lead for the first time in the competition. The lead switched hands multiple times throughout the third and came to rest with UTEP, 48-47, as the quarter came to a close. The Miners held the lead throughout the first half of the quarter, however the Rams sunk a three to tie the game in the fourth minute before another three-ball allowed Colorado to take the lead in the final minutes. The Rams extended its lead to seven points before the end of the game, leading to a Colorado State Victory, 66-59. 

High Point and Colorado State have not yet played each other, according to the High Point Athletics website. 

Davidson College last played Longwood University. The Lancers opened the competition against Davidson with a three off a rebound from a missed jumper. Despite being first on the board, the Wildcats quickly took the lead with a jumper and two made free throws. Davidson continued to hold the lead, extending the deficit to 14 points before the end of the quarter. Davidson continued to push points in the second, increasing its lead to 20 points before both teams' defense buckled down, leading to a scoreless four minutes of play. A made free throw from Longwood broke the scoreless streak halfway through the quarter. The Wildcats opened the second half by splashing in a three before sinking a jumper to take a 24-point lead. The Wildcats went crazy in the final 10 minutes of play, creating a 30-point lead in the first five minutes of the half before extending it to a 39-point lead off back-to-back-to-back layups. The Lancers secured a rebound and made a layup in the final seconds of play, finalizing the score at 83-46 for a Wildcat victory. 

Last time Davidson and High Point played each other was in November of last year. HPU got on the board first by converting a steal to a layup. High Point continued to utilize its momentum with Skyler Curran splashing in a three to secure a nine-point lead. Davidson quickly retaliated by subbing in some new players who went to work cutting down the Panthers' lead to four to end the quarter. Davidson opened the second with back-to-back layups to tie the game before sinking a jumper to take the lead. High Point attempted to take back the advantage, but the the Wildcats were able to find a five-point lead to close out the half. After intermission, Davidson scored off a layup before sinking a three to extend its lead to 10. High Point continued to work to cut the Wildcats' lead, but to no avail as the quarter ended with a Davidson three to put the deficit at 19 points. HPU opened the final quarter with a three-ball before cutting Davidson's lead down to single digits, but a Wildcat jumper and two made free throws in the final seconds of the game pushed Davidson's lead back to 13-points as the game ended in a Panther loss, 77-64. High Point has played Davidson thirteen times and won twice since its first matchup in 2006.

HPU was last matched up against the University of North Florida in a close competition. High Point got on the board first with a couple back-to-back layups followed by a Juslin Bodo Bodo dunk. A three-ball from Kimani Hamilton extended the Panthers' lead to six before the Ospreys sunk a couple threes to even the score. From there, the two teams exchanged the lead nine different times throughout the half. As the game neared intermission, HPU had secured a three-point advantage until UNF scored back-to-back threes in the final 45 seconds to take the three-point lead.The Panthers opened up the second half with a jumper to cut the Ospreys' lead to one, followed by a layup to take the advantage. The two teams continued to battle it out for the lead until the turning point came with seven minutes remaining. High Point held a one-point advantage as Duke Miles stole the ball and scored off a fast break to take the lead which the Panthers refused to give up the rest of the game, pushing the deficit to as much as eight points. The Ospreys attempted to come back, but HPU held steady leading to a Panther victory, 86-79.

Western Carolina University last played Gardner-Webb University in a close battle. The lead changed hands multiple times throughout the first five minutes of the half before coming to rest with the Catamounts. Western Carolina secured a 14-point lead within seven minutes of play before the Bulldogs started to chip away at the advantage, ending the half with only a seven-point deficit. After intermission, Western Carolina continued to hold the lead as Gardner-Webb worked to cut it down. The turning point in the game came after a Bulldog layup evened the score before GWU sunk a jumper to take the lead permanently. Gardner-Webb secured a three-point cushion as the game entered the final seconds, giving hope to the Catamounts, however the Bulldogs capitalized on a couple free throws to put the game away leading to a GWU victory, 82-77. 

High Point last played Western Carolina in 2018 in a record-breaking competition. The Panthers were on-point with its shooting, throwing up 66.7 percent field goal percentage, breaking the school record for the highest field goal percentage against a Division I opponent, which previously stood at 63.0 percent. The Panthers opened the competition by sinking their first six shots, including three 3-pointers, to take an early 15-6 lead. High Point utilized its momentum to take as much as a 13-point lead over the Catamounts during the first half. A Panther jumper in the final 30 seconds extended the lead to 15 before WCU chucked up a three-ball to drop the deficit down to 12 as the game paused for intermission. High Point opened the second half on a 20-3 run, featuring a couple dunks and two threes to set the score to 64-35. A jumper with 75 seconds left in the game gave HPU a 31-point lead. Western Carolina knocked down a couple free-throws and a layup to cut the deficit down to 27 as the game came to a close, leading to a Panther victory, 86-59. High Point has played WCU six times and lost only once since the first matchup in 2003. 

North Carolina A&T last played Citadel University in the Aggies home opener. Citadel got on the board first with an and-one. The Bulldogs held the lead for the first five minutes until NCA&T evened the score with a jumper before taking the lead with three made free-throws. The lead continued to change hands throughout the first half before Citadel sunk a three to take a four-point advantage at the end of the half. The Aggies quickly cut the Bulldogs' lead at the top of the second with a couple free throws, but Citadel took off not long after, hitting an 18-6 run. The Bulldogs kept the momentum, extending its lead up to 20 points with less than two minutes remaining. A jumper and a free throw for the Aggies narrowed the advantage to 17 with a minute left, leading to a Aggie loss, 85-68. 

High Point last played the Aggies in February, 2022. HPU jumped out with an 8-2 run in the first three minutes of play before extending the lead to 12-points. A dunk from NCA&T in the final five of the half was the turning point for the Aggies as they started to chip away at High Point's advantage. Alex Holt picked the Aggie offense to sink a last-second jumper in the lane, putting HPU's lead to 37-27 at halftime. The Panthers continued to push points in the second, sinking a three to take a 21-point lead with 10 minutes left on the clock. With the remaining time, the Aggies managed to cut the deficit down to 18, but the Panthers secured a layup in the final minute to take a 20-point lead. The game ended with a Panther victory, 78-58. High Point has only lost once out of the four times the team has played North Carolina A&T since the first matchup in 2003.
