Kate Ward Wins Sixth Gold With U.S. Women's Deaf National Team

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Kate Ward is headed home with yet another gold medal.

On Friday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Ward and the U.S. Women's Deaf National Team defeated Turkey, 3-0, to win its third straight Women's World Deaf Championship. The victory marks Ward's sixth gold medal as the High Point University women's soccer assistant is the world's winningest player.

"It was an honor to represent the USA for my sixth international event," Ward said, "and to help the team to its third straight World Championship! This is one of the best teams in the history of the DWNT, and we approached each game with a desire to prove why we have been the best in the world for over a decade. It was a total team effort, from players to coaches to staff, and I am so proud to be a part of this legacy. I'm grateful to HPU Athletics for the incredible support before and during the tournament - I felt it even halfway across the world!"

Team USA outscored teams 33-2 over six games as the Americans played Turkey and England twice while facing Japan and Poland once. Ward started in five of the six games while having two assists over 330 minutes played. Full results can be viewed HERE. Since 2005, the USDWNT is 38-0-1 in 39 matches and is 6-0-0 at the 2023 World Championships, scoring 36 goals and conceding just two.

Through six international events, Ward has now won gold in Taipei Deaflympics (2009), Turkey World Championships (2012), Bulgaria Deaflympics (2013), Italy World Championships (2016), Brazil Deaflympics (2022), and Malaysia World Championships (2023).

Ward will rejoin the Panthers on Wednesday in preparation for the final three games of the regular season and the Big South Conference Tournament.
