Site: Charlotte, N.C. (Bojangles Coliseum)

Score: High Point 51, Winthrop 68

Records: High Point 14-18 (7-9), Winthrop 21-8 (14-2)

CHARLOTTE, N.C.— The High Point University men's basketball team had the 2021-22 season come to an end on Friday night March 4th falling to Winthrop. John-Michael Wright and Jaden House led the way for HPU in scoring as Wright finished with 21 and House had 20 points.

G.G. SmithI want to congratulate Winthrop. Good luck to them in their next game. We are disappointed in the result of the game; it was a tale of two halves. We did not shoot the ball particularly well in the first half and then we're playing catch up for the rest of the game. I thought our guys really fought hard in the second half. We came up short and you can tell Winthrop's experience helped them out with the start of the game.

Panther Particulars

Winthrop started the game on a 6-0 run. HPU answered with a 5-0 run of their own with a three from Randleman and a bucket from House.

With 12:31 on the clock, JMW drove down the land and scored to make it 13-7.

An 8-3 run gave Winthrop a 21-10 lead with 8:12 remaining in the first half.

With 6:10 to play in the first, House hit a three that made it 21-13 bringing the Eagle lead down to eight points.

With 1:44 left in the first half, House drove down the lane and scored to make it a 10-point game, (27-17).

Winthrop ended the half on a 5-0 run to take a 32-17 lead into halftime.

Randleman hit a jumper with 18:01 to play which made it 39-19.

House attacked the rim with 15:26 left to play and made it 41-24.

JMW hit two back-to-back threes which made it 47-27 with 13:10 to play.

House started to get his Panthers back in the game first with a three, then a jam. It was 50-37 with 8:31 left in the game.

Rob Peterson III scored which brought the game to 53-39.

HPU got a stop then JMW scored and made it just an 11-point Eagle lead.

A spinning House layup with 4:36 to go made it a nine-point deficit bringing the Eagle lead down to single digits.

JMW hit a three with 2:40 to play to make it 59-48.

The Eagles ended the game on a 9-3 run to go on to win 68-51.
