HPU Athletics Releases 2020-21 Annual Report

 HIGH POINT, N.C.—The High Point University Athletic Department has released its 2020-21 Annual Report, which details the story of an extraordinary year for the Purple and White as they began a new decade. Check out some of the highlights below.

 • HPU finishes 3rd in the DI-AAA All-Sports Trophy out of 99 eligible DI universities, which is the highest finish in HPU history.  

• HPU finishes 77th in the Learfield Cup, out of 353 eligible DI universities, which is the highest finish in HPU history and in the history of the Big South. 

• HPU captures a record thirteen conference regular season or tournament championships and advances 5 teams to the NCAA Tournament, as well as 3 individual NCAA Championship qualifiers. 

 • Freshman Sydney Horn finishes in 3rd place in the pole vault in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which is the highest individual performance in HPU history. Horn follows up with a 6th place performance at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to become the first-ever two-time freshman All-American in HPU history.

 • Women's basketball wins their 1st ever Big South Tournament and qualifies for the NCAA WBB Tournament for the 1st time in program history.  

 • Volleyball defeats UCF in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament in 5 sets and becomes the 2nd program in HPU history to win an NCAA Tournament game. Libero Abby Bottomley is named an All-American, the first to earn this honor in HPU volleyball history. 

 • Men's soccer wins their 1st ever Big South Tournament championship with a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over USC-Upstate and earns a 2nd round match-up in the NCAA Tournament.  

• Men's lacrosse beats Richmond in the Southern Conference championship game to earn their 2nd trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history.  

• Women's lacrosse won its 4th straight Big South Regular Season and Tournament Championship and advanced to the 1st Round of the NCAA Tournament.  

• Famke Heinst wins her 4th consecutive Big South Women's Cross Country Championship and becomes the 2nd runner in HPU history to compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.  

• Samantha Vodry (WGOLF) and Brandon Einstein (MGOLF) are selected as at-large individual qualifiers for the NCAA Women's and Men's Golf Regionals.  

 • It was another outstanding academic year for the Panthers with all 16 teams combining for a 3.34 cumulative GPA. All 16 teams posted team GPAs of 3.0 or higher during the 2020-21 academic year
