HALL OF FAME REGISTRATION

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The High Point University Athletics Department and Panther Club are proud to re-announce (Dec. 6, 2021) the HPU Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2022. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic HPU had not been able to properly honor the Hall of Fame class of 2022, which was initially announced in 2020. High Point University Athletics and Panther Club are thrilled to have the opportunity to formally honor the class this spring at HPU's Hall of Fame Ceremony. The class of features five former student-athletes. 
 
The group includes Chris Archer '05, '07 (men's soccer and men's tennis), Jen Evans '06, '07 (women's soccer), Tom Gamble '87 (baseball), Brett Speight '98 (men's basketball), and Ursula Watt '84 (women's basketball and volleyball).
 
"We are excited to announce our sixth High Point University Athletics Hall of Fame class," HPU athletic director Dan Hauser said. "This group helped shape the foundation of our HPU Athletic Department. We look forward to welcoming them back to campus and honor the extraordinary achievements of this year's class."
 
The induction ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the High Point University Qubein Center Conference Center. Cocktail hour will begin at 6:30 p.m., with dinner and the induction ceremony immediately following at 7:30 p.m. 
 
Tickets for the ceremony are $50 per person or $300 for a table of eight.
 
The annual Panther Classic Golf Tournament will take place the same weekend on Friday, April 1st at Willow Creek Golf Club.

Chris Archer (men's soccer and men's tennis)
Archer excelled at HPU as a two-sport athlete, earning multiple athletic and academic honors for both sports. In soccer, Archer was a two-time All-Big South First-Team selection (2004, 06) and named to the NCCSIA All-State team in 2004. He was a two-time NSCAA Scholar All-Region (2004, 06) selection, while being named CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2006. Archer ranks second in school history in career points (80) and goals (33). He helped guide the Panthers to their first Big South Championship match appearance in 2006.
 
In tennis, Archer was the 2003 Big South Co-Freshman of the Year, while being named to the conference's 2000-09 All-Decade Team for Doubles. He was a three-time singles all-conference honoree (2003, 04, 05) and a three-time all-conference doubles recipient (2004, 05, 06). He helped guide HPU to its only Big South men's tennis championship in 2003. Additionally, he was an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2004, 05 and 06.
 
Jen Evans (women's soccer)
Evans was a four-time Big South all-conference selection (2002, 03, 04, 07); one of 27 with this distinction. She helped the women's soccer program capture two Big South Championships (2003, 07) and two NCAA Tournament appearances. She is HPU's career leader in points (77) and tied for the all-time record for goals scored (30). She holds the program record for single-season points (27) and shots (40) in 2004. Evans was vote to the Big South women's soccer 2000-09 All-Decade Team.
 
Tom Gamble (baseball)
Gamble earned 20 career wins on the mound for HPU (eighth all-time), while pitching 257.1 innings (ninth all-time) throughout his career. After graduation and a master's degree from Rowan University, Gamble found a career in football for the past 30-plus years. He served in a variety of roles with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1989-94, then went on to work with the New York Jets (1994-95), Indianapolis Colts (1997-05), San Francisco 49ers (2005-13), Eagles (2013-14), 49ers (2014-17), and University of Michigan (2017-19). He most recently was named assistant general manager of the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL.
 
Brett Speight (men's basketball)
Speight averaged 17.2 points per game for HPU over his career (ranks tenth all-time), ranking fifth all-time in career points (1,877), fourth in blocks (80) and ninth in field goal percentage (.574). He was twice named All-Carolinas/Virginia Athletic Conference (1996, 97), and an NCAA Division II All-American in 1997. He was the CVAC Player of the Year, CVAC Male Athlete of the Year and CVAC Tournament MVP in 1997.
 
Ursula Watt (women's basketball and volleyball)
Watt was a two-sport athlete at HPU earning multiple accolades as a part of the women's basketball and volleyball teams. In basketball, Watt finished her career averaging 12.9 points per game and 2.9 rebounds a game. She was named an NAIA All-American in 1984, while also being chosen as NAIA District 26 Player of the Year in 1984. That same year she was named Carolinas Conference Female Athlete of the Year. Watt was a two-time All-Carolinas recipient (1983, 84) and All-NAIA 26 honoree (1983, 84).
 
In volleyball, Watt was a three-time All-Carolinas Conference honoree (1981, 82, 83), while earning All-NAIA District 26 during those same years. She was the NAIA District 26 Player of the Year and NAIA All-American in 1983 and was named the NAIA District 26 Tournament MVP in 1982.
