The High Point University men's basketball team will play its first regular-season home game in the Qubein Center on the opening night of college basketball Tuesday, November 9th against Shenandoah. The Panthers welcome the Hornets after hosting an exhibition match-up against Mount Olive last week in front of a passionate, capacity crowd. The game against Shenandoah is slated for 8:00 PM and will start following the conclusion of the women's game against Elon.
Across the Bench
The Hornets was 0-8 a season ago in the ODAC. Shenandoah's season came to an end in the quarterfinals of the ODAC tournament as Ferrum defeated Shenandoah 73-60.
#1 Jaylen Williams returns as the Hornets' leading scorer from a season ago, with 96 points on the season. The Virginia native averaged 19.2 points per game. He played in five out of the eight games and started in four of them.
The Hornets are coached by Adam Walsh, a High Point graduate in 2000. Walsh is heading into his fifth season as the head coach of the Hornets after spending seven years as the head coach at Centenary.
Last Time Out
After years of anticipation, The High Point University men's basketball team opened the $170 million, state of the art, Qubein Center in front of a capacity crowd on Thursday, November 4th. HPU defeated Mount Olive 95-70 in an exhibition. Zack Austin led his Panthers in scoring with a game-high 20 points in his debut for HPU. Austin finished one rebound shy of a double-double. Both John-Michael Wright and Emmanuel Izunabor recorded double-doubles as Wright had 13 points and 10 rebounds while Izunabor brought in a game-high 17 boards while adding 16 points.

Court Dedication
Prior to the game, the court was dedicated to Tubby and Donna Smith by Nido and Marianna Qubein. The crowd roared as the announcement of the dedication became official naming the court of the Qubein Center, Tubby and Donna Smith Court.
Coach Smith on the dedication: It's quite an honor when you're recognized that way. I am happy to be able to share it with my family, former players, teammates, and fans. I really appreciate Dr. Qubein and Mrs. Qubein presenting the plaque of the floor it was a special time. Then to see my parents on the scoreboard in that video was important, it brings back memories of how important my parents were, the guidance that they gave me over the years, I hope I made them proud.
Austin Scores Twenty in his Debut
Austin had twenty points against UMO on opening night and was one rebound shy of a double-double. He is now the answer to a trivia question as he hit the first-ever basket in a game in the Qubein Center last time out against UMO.

Take it to the House
Jaden House started last time out and scored 14 points as he played 25 minutes. Four of the five Panthers who started the last game ended their night with double digits in points.
Mr. Wright Now
John-Michael Wright was named to the Big South Preseason First Team. Wright was highlighted by the NCAA in August as one of the top nine returning scorers in the nation. Wright averaged 20.7 points per game a season ago, which was good for the 17th best scorer in the nation. He assisted on nearly 25% of HPU's baskets when he was in the game a season ago according to Kenpom. Wright was the second-highest scorer in the Big South last season.
Non-Conference Play
High Point will play 14 non-conference games in total, nine of them taking place inside the beautiful Qubein Center in its inaugural season and the other five occurring on the road. Four of the Panthers' five opponents on the road are Power-Five teams.
