CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Big South Conference announced Wednesday morning (Aug. 12) the decision to delay fall sports seasons with the intent of playing in the spring.
 
"Our HPU student-athletes were very excited to compete for championships this fall. The current movement in collegiate athletics however inhibits our ability to field a complete and competitive schedule," said HPU athletics director Dan Hauser. "We support the Big South Conference decision to delay the fall sports season and move competitions to the spring. Our student-athletes and coaches will now focus on preparing for the spring season and work to achieve their championship goals."
 
Affected Panther sports are men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, fall competitions in men's and women's golf, and out-of-season competition in spring sports. The Big South Conference announcement today does not impact High Point University winter sports (men's and women's basketball and men's and women's indoor track and field).
 
Big South member institutions may continue with permissible athletics activities, as defined by NCAA regulations and with the exception of fall sport competition, at their own discretion and in accordance with applicable local and state regulations and procedures.
