HIGH POINT, N.C.—The NCAA Committee on Infractions released Friday (April 12) its findings and penalties associated with rules violations by High Point University. The university worked with the NCAA on a Negotiated Resolution in which the Committee on Infractions accepted.
The university discovered violations where student-athletes were not notified in writing that their athletic aid was reduced, cancelled, or non-renewed and the ability to have a hearing regarding that decision, as outlined in NCAA Bylaws. Upon discovery of the violations, HPU self-reported them to the NCAA, worked to rectify the process immediately and worked with the NCAA Enforcement Staff to come to an agreement on a Negotiated Resolution.
The committee's report recognized multiple mitigating factors, including the university's prompt acknowledgment of the violation and investigation, acceptance of responsibility and imposition of meaningful corrective measures. In addition, HPU made affirmative steps to expedite final resolution of the matter.
The penalties associated with the Negotiated Resolution include a two-year probation period from April 12, 2019-April 11, 2021 and a one-time $15,000 fine. No recruiting, scholarship, regular season or post-season competition penalties were imposed.
